DENMARK SPEAKERS RECALL EARLY ROLES OF FARM WOMEN

Women with rural roots will discuss early roles of farmwomen Tuesday, January 16 at 7 p.m. at the Denmark Town Hall, 90th and Oakgreen in Denmark Township, south Washington County. Lyla Davies, President of the Denmark Township Historical Society, will participate and will introduce several other speakers. The public is invited and there is no admission fee.

Speakers will recall the huge challenges faced by farmwomen in the early 1900s and Depression years. With no electricity or running water, they provided food, clothing and comfort for their families. They cooked on wood-burning stoves, grew huge gardens and canned the produce, and still found time to help with the chores and support educational and cultural activities in the community.

The Denmark Township Historical Society presents the program, now in its eighth year of working to preserve traditions and stories about the township and making them available to the public. For more information contact President Lyla Davies, 651-436-4493.
